The Sovereign Trades Bookshelf

Every Trade. Every Book. No Login.

The shelf built by working hands for working hands. Framing, flooring, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, trades geometry, and the walk from apprentice to journeyman — explained in plain language, priced so a paycheck can afford it, and free forever as PDFs.

Every purchase feeds The Foundation for Global Instruction
The Working Sovereign’s Library

No Fluff. No Filler. No 300 Pages for What Fits in 80.

A trades book should read the way a trades day sounds: direct, honest, useful before lunch. Every title here was written to be carried in a work van, opened on a job site, dog-eared and coffee-stained, and still make sense at 6 a.m. when the next crew shows up.

Dr. Gene A. Constant, Founding Chancellor of Global Sovereign University, wrote The Sovereign Trades Series after four decades watching working people be sold overpriced textbooks that assume the reader has never held a tool. These do not. Every book here starts where the reader actually is — whether that is unemployed, mid-career, or already running a crew — and moves toward the next honest thing to learn.

Free PDFs cost nothing. Kindle editions are $3.99 flat. Paperbacks are priced at what Amazon’s printer costs plus a few dollars for the Foundation. The whole shelf serves one mission: to put the tools of a trade — the vocabulary, the math, the code compliance, the job-hunting language — into the hands of anyone who wants them.

How the Shelf Is Organized

Four Pillars. One Trade at a Time.

The books on this shelf split into four honest categories. Start where your work lives today. Cross into the next when the day’s work is done.

1
Foundation Math
The math a tradesperson actually uses. Fractions, geometry, and the calculations behind every stud wall, every conduit run, every square yard of flooring. Zero fluff. Trades Geometry is on the top shelf.
2
The Trade Itself
The subject-matter books, one per trade. Residential framing. Flooring. Electrical. HVAC. Plumbing. Each written the way the trade actually works, not the way a textbook committee wishes it did.
3
Path to Apprentice
The books that walk a new person from curious to hireable. Pre-apprenticeship electrical. Interview prep. Safety fundamentals. The language you need to say on day one so a foreman keeps you on day two.
4
Business of the Trade
The books for the tradesperson who has decided to run her own shop. Bidding. Contracts. Insurance. Managing a two-person crew. When to hire, when to say no, and how to keep the truck paid off.

Straight Answers

Frequently Asked Questions

Are the PDFs really free?
Yes. Every trade book on this shelf is available as a free PDF from the GSU Library at globalsovereignuniversity.org. No login. No email. No paywall. Ever. The Foundation for Global Instruction, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, publishes the whole catalog free because a working person should not have to buy an $85 textbook to learn a trade.
Why buy the Kindle or paperback if the PDF is free?
Three reasons. First, some readers prefer paper on a jobsite or Kindle on a truck seat over a PDF on a phone. Second, the Kindle edition at $3.99 and the paperback both directly fund The Foundation for Global Instruction — every purchase keeps the free PDFs coming for the next reader. Third, the paperback is easier to hand to a friend who is thinking about trying the trade.
Who is the author?
Dr. Gene A. Constant, Founding Chancellor of Global Sovereign University. Navy and Marine Corps veteran, DBA, four decades in and around the trades and the training of working people. Every book on this shelf is his work, donated to The Foundation for Global Instruction as part of the mission of free education for all.
Is there a book on my specific trade?
Probably. The Sovereign Trades Series covers framing, flooring, electrical (including pre-apprenticeship), HVAC, plumbing, roofing, drywall, and general contracting, with more titles added every quarter. If your trade is not on the shelf yet, tell GENO. He tracks reader requests and passes them to the Chancellor.
I do not know which trade to pick. Can I read something first?
Yes. Start with Trades Geometry — the math and layout foundation under every trade — and Pre-Apprenticeship Electrical, which reads more like a career guide than a technical manual. Both are free PDFs. Read the first chapter of each. The one that keeps you reading is the one that fits your hands.
Do these books qualify for certification?
The books themselves are self-study resources, not credentialing programs. However, GSU offers a free, publicly verifiable Certificate of Comprehension in HVAC and additional trades certifications are in production. Every certification is free to earn, requires no login, and is publicly verifiable at globalsovereignuniversity.org/certification.

A Trade Is Freedom on Paper.
