How does the Spelling Forge work?The Forge speaks a word aloud (and a sentence, which matters for sound-alike words) — you type it, then every word teaches its pattern: the -ck rule, the doubling rule, silent letters, the demons. Typing is the point: producing a spelling is a stronger skill than recognizing one, which is why this is not a multiple-choice game.
What if I can’t hear the audio?The sentence clue with the blank is always shown, so the Forge works in silence too — and the audio uses your device’s built-in voice, no downloads. On some phones, tap a Hear button to wake the voice the first time.
Is it really free?Yes — free, no login, no data harvested. Scores save anonymously so your forge-streak survives between visits. GSU operates under The Foundation for Global Instruction, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
